Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, developed a routine for applying EFT that he calls the "Basic Recipe", and it consists of four different "ingredients", or processes - two of them identical. Once memorized, this whole process takes about one or two minutes to apply.

The EFT Processes:

1. The Setup
2. The Sequence
3. The 9 Gamut Procedure
4. The Sequence

Gary goes into great deal about each one of these processes in his free EFT manual, but we’ll touch on the basics of the techniques below.

EFT And Meridians

Meridians are pathways in the body, along which energy flows, and are normally associated with an organ of the body; the stomach, kidney, lung, liver, gall bladder, etc. Meridians were discovered over five thousand years ago by the ancient Chinese, who found an energy - invisible to our senses - that flows through everyone's body.

This energy flows along the meridians sort of like the copper wires on an electrical circuit board, carrying the energy to all parts of the body.

Physical and mental problems are likely caused by disturbances in this energy flow, and so, by working on the different meridian points, EFT works to free up these energy flows.

It is by really focusing your mind on, and at the same time "tapping" on, specific meridian points - points on which acupuncture and acupressure therapies also work - that you can rid yourself of many physical, emotional, and mental issues that may be holding you back and causing you distress.

EFT Meridian Points

EB = Beginning of the EyeBrow – Just above and to one side of the nose.
SE = Side of the Eye – On the bone bordering the outside corner of the eye.
UE = Under the Eye – On the bone under the eye and about 1 inch below the pupil.
UN = Under the Nose - On the small area between the bottom of your nose and the top of your upper lip.
Ch = Chin - Midway between the point of your chin and the bottom of your lower lip.
CB = Beginning of the CollarBone - The point where the sternum (breastbone), collarbone and the first rib meet.
UA = Under the Arm - On the side of the body, at a point even with the nipple (for men) or in the middle of the bra strap (for women).
BN = Below the Nipple - For men, one inch below the nipple. For ladies, where the underskin of the breast meets the chest wall.
Th = Thumb - On the outside edge of your thumb at a point even with the base of the thumbnail.
IF = Index Finger - On the side of your index finger (the side facing your thumb) at a point even with the base of the fingernail.
MF = Middle Finger - On the side of your middle finger (the side closest to your thumb) at a point even with the base of the fingernail.
BF = Baby Finger - On the inside of your little finger (the side closest to your thumb) at a point even with the base of the fingernail.
KC = Karate Chop - The last point is the karate chop point. It is located in the middle of the fleshy part on the outside of the hand between the top of the wrist bone and the base of the little finger.

The meridian points should all be tapped with your first two fingers, so you get the most coverage and control. You will need to tap each point, firmly but not painfully, about seven times each while you repeat your reminder phrase about what positive change you are going to make in yourself.

Most of the tapping points can be found on either side of your body, and it doesn't matter if you switch sides during your EFT tapping sequence. Your tapping sequence will be administered near one end of each of your meridians where the meridian is closest to the surface of the body and therefore more easily accessible.
