How Does EFT Work?

When you tap on various meridian points in a certain sequence this, re-balances the energy flow which has been disrupted and is causing the unpleasant symptoms you are feeling. Focusing on the problem you want to tackle allows you to tune into the frequency of the disturbance in much the same way you tune into music on a radio.

Once you are focused on whatever your problem is, you then tap - or have your EFT practitioner tap - on specific points near the end of each meridian associated with the particular problem you are facing.

The tapping procedure acts to unblock that particular channel, allowing the energy to travel effectively again, thus correcting the problem.

What Makes EFT So Effective?

EFT has undoubted success, perhaps largely due to the fact that it treats both the conscious and subconscious mind, as well as the body. Often times, your subconscious mind can hang on to old beliefs which hinder and block your healing process, and EFT works to break down these beliefs so that you are no longer unwittingly sabotaging your attempts to heal and change.

Emotions and subconscious thoughts also play a huge role in people feeling pain, something that therapies other than EFT often fail to appreciate. Physical pain, as well as psychological trauma, fears, and phobias, can be healed through EFT.

Sometimes it may take several EFT sessions to effectively treat a problem, and often one session is sufficient, but long-term, EFT has a great success rate. It is a gentle, painless technique during which you should feel calm and in control, and afterwards, you should emerge feeling refreshed and relaxed.

Emotional Freedom Technique is something that you can easily and quickly learn to do for yourself, giving you a lifelong healing technique that you can use at will whenever you are in pain, feel fear or stress, or any number of other issues. And, once you have learned to apply EFT, which only takes a couple of minutes from start to finish, you can even use it to help your friends and family as well.

How to Get Rid Of Bad Habits with Tapping

Almost everyone has a bad habit that they would love to break. And while some bad habits are easy to get rid of, others can be more challenging.

Psychologists and other experts offer a variety of solutions to break undesirable habits, but one particular technique is rapidly gaining attention these days. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) using tapping has been shown to be an easy yet effective way to get past bad habits.

Some habits are simply annoying, such as nail biting, chronic coughing or clearing the throat, fidgeting, or procrastinating. Others, however, can pose a serious threat to your health or safety, such as smoking or excessive drinking. Practitioners of EFT recommend tapping to free you from the most stubborn of bad habits.

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is based on the principle that illnesses and psychological disorders are caused by a disturbance in the body's life energy. Tapping on the acupuncture points restores balance and allows the body to heal itself. Tapping on specific points can also relieve stress and the emotional ties binding you to the undesirable habit.

Tapping to Get Rid Of Bad Habits

People often develop bad habits because they are stressed, bored, or want instant gratification. For instance, you may avoid vacuuming or doing the dishes (boring) because you'd rather watch TV (more gratifying). Nail biting and cracking the knuckles can be signs of stress or nervousness.

Many of these poor habits can be eliminated by tapping. Tapping on specific meridian points removes stress and releases negative emotions. Although it will not happen overnight, you'll start to feel better and eventually free yourself from bad habits.

If you have a number of bad habits, you can start working on one of them first. Perhaps you want to break your habit of biting your nails, smoking, slouching, or running late. Choose just one to begin with, such as nail biting, and start tapping to get rid of it.

The great thing about tapping is that there's nothing complicated about it and you can do it on your own. Simply focus your thoughts on the habits you want to change and start tapping. You can easily learn about what points to tap and where to start and end. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain with Emotional Freedom Technique tapping.

How to Tackle Bad Habits with Tapping

You want to start your session off by tapping while acknowledging your bad habit. Next, tap to get rid of the habit itself. Be patient and honest with yourself, and don't expect to get overnight results.

Many people say you don't have to follow a specific sequence of tapping points. I find that it works better, however, if you follow a particular routine.

Tapping always starts with the EFT 'Setup', wherein you acknowledge your issue, then tap on the Karate Chop Point 5-10 times while saying, “Even though I [state your bad habit], I intensely and wholly accept myself.”

Next, start a round of tapping through the following meridian points – the eyebrow, under eye, side of the eye, under the chin, under the nose, under arm, collarbone, and top of the head. Use two fingers to tap 5 to 10 times. While tapping, it helps to make statements to acknowledge your bad habits such as:

* I often bite my nails when I'm nervous
* Sometimes I bite my nails
* I seldom bite my nails now
* I choose not to bite my nails
* Even though I bite my nails, I completely love and accept myself anyway
* I don't bite my nails now

You can make up the phrases you want to say as you go through the tapping session. The important thing is to stay focused on the issue rather than on the words. If you stick with it, you'll begin to see improvements in your behavior and your bad habit will become a thing of the past.

EFT Tapping Mistakes and How to Avoid Them

EFT tapping is simple and easy to learn, but did you know that it's still possible to make mistakes? Here are some of the common mistakes people make when tapping:

1. Not Tapping Often Enough
Tapping should be done on a daily basis.  Experts recommend at least 5 minutes of tapping three or more times each day. At the very least, do some tapping in the morning before getting out of bed, and again at night before falling asleep. A few issues can be cleared up with a minute of tapping, but the majority will require more time and attention. More frequent tapping can also clear bigger problems more quickly.

2. Not Tapping Long Enough
Many people stop too soon during a tapping session. Too often, beginners tap for a few rounds and give up when they feel they're not getting the results they were hoping for. Tapping should take 10-30 minutes, or even longer. Devoting enough time to tapping will make a lot of difference. Some people will also stop when they begin to feel better. Don't settle for just a bit of relief; continue tapping until the energy starts flowing and you feel really good.

3. Not Being Specific Enough
Global or general statements can help get you started in the right direction while tapping, but after that you have to be more specific. You can setup with a statement like “Even though I feel anxious right now, I deeply and completely accept myself.” After doing a couple of rounds of the general statement, you can go down to specifics such as “Even though I feel anxious about my upcoming job interview, I deeply and completely accept myself.” You'll get better results when you're focused on a specific issue.

4. Wanting To Do The Tapping Perfectly
Right Away Some people want to be “perfect” and may put off tapping until they feel they are able to do it correctly. As a result they only try the technique a few times, or not at all. Getting started on tapping is more important than being perfect. You can still get good results even if you think your technique is less than perfect. Start with the basic tapping points and be sure to tap daily to develop your EFT skills.

 5. Not Tuning Into The Feelings

Don't forget that tapping clears emotional energy from your body. Hence, it's important to tune into your feelings and not merely “think” about them. If your psychological difficulties these days are the result of embarrassing childhood memories, try to recall how you felt at the time. Old feelings of shame, hurt and anger will sometimes resurface when you tap. Try to resurrect these feelings and you will get more out of your tapping sessions.

 6. Expecting All Results From Tapping To Be Permanent

You can't expect 100% positive results all the time, and this is true not only for EFT but for all healing methods as well. Don't get frustrated or discouraged if an issue or part of it comes back. Some people do get permanent results but in many cases you may have to do more tapping to get rid of the issue completely. If you have a problem that keeps coming back, this could mean that other aspects or a root cause needs to be uncovered and addressed first.

7. Sticking To EFT Basics Only
In order to master EFT and reap its full benefits, you have to invest time and effort to gain skill and develop your intuition. It's not enough to “go through the motions”. Harness your intuition and use it to seek out the most effective tapping techniques and peel away the emotions and root causes of your problems.
