Focusing on the problem you want to tackle allows you to tune into the frequency of the disturbance in much the same way you tune into music on a radio.

Once you are focused on whatever your problem is, you then tap - or have your EFT practitioner tap - on specific points near the end of each meridian associated with the particular problem you are facing.

The tapping procedure acts to unblock that particular channel, allowing the energy to travel effectively again, thus correcting the problem.

What Makes EFT So Effective?

EFT has undoubted success, perhaps largely due to the fact that it treats both the conscious and subconscious mind, as well as the body. Often times, your subconscious mind can hang on to old beliefs which hinder and block your healing process, and EFT works to break down these beliefs so that you are no longer unwittingly sabotaging your attempts to heal and change.

Emotions and subconscious thoughts also play a huge role in people feeling pain, something that therapies other than EFT often fail to appreciate. Physical pain, as well as psychological trauma, fears, and phobias, can be healed through EFT.

Sometimes it may take several EFT sessions to effectively treat a problem, and often one session is sufficient, but long-term, EFT has a great success rate. It is a gentle, painless technique during which you should feel calm and in control, and afterwards, you should emerge feeling refreshed and relaxed.
And while some bad habits are easy to get rid of, others can be more challenging.

Psychologists and other experts offer a variety of solutions to break undesirable habits, but one particular technique is rapidly gaining attention these days. Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) using tapping has been shown to be an easy yet effective way to get past bad habits.

Some habits are simply annoying, such as nail biting, chronic coughing or clearing the throat, fidgeting, or procrastinating. Others, however, can pose a serious threat to your health or safety, such as smoking or excessive drinking. Practitioners of EFT recommend tapping to free you from the most stubborn of bad habits.

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT, is based on the principle that illnesses and psychological disorders are caused by a disturbance in the body's life energy. Tapping on the acupuncture points restores balance and allows the body to heal itself. Tapping on specific points can also relieve stress and the emotional ties binding you to the undesirable habit.

Tapping to Get Rid Of Bad Habits

People often develop bad habits because they are stressed, bored, or want instant gratification. For instance, you may avoid vacuuming or doing the dishes (boring) because you'd rather watch TV (more gratifying). Nail biting and cracking the knuckles can be signs of stress or nervousness.

Many of these poor habits can be eliminated by tapping. Tapping on specific meridian points removes stress and releases negative emotions. Although it will not happen overnight, you'll start to feel better and eventually free yourself from bad habits.

If you have a number of bad habits, you can start working on one of them first. Perhaps you want to break your habit of biting your nails, smoking, slouching, or running late. Choose just one to begin with, such as nail biting, and start tapping to get rid of it.

The great thing about tapping is that there's nothing complicated about it and you can do it on your own. Simply focus your thoughts on the habits you want to change and start tapping. You can easily learn about what points to tap and where to start and end. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain with Emotional Freedom Technique tapping.

How to Tackle Bad Habits with Tapping

You want to start your session off by tapping while acknowledging your bad habit. Next, tap to get rid of the habit itself. Be patient and honest with yourself, and don't expect to get overnight results.

Many people say you don't have to follow a specific sequence of tapping points. I find that it works better, however, if you follow a particular routine.

Tapping always starts with the EFT 'Setup', wherein you acknowledge your issue, then tap on the Karate Chop Point 5-10 times while saying, “Even though I [state your bad habit], I intensely and wholly accept myself.”

Next, start a round of tapping through the following meridian points – the eyebrow, under eye, side of the eye, under the chin, under the nose, under arm, collarbone, and top of the head. Use two fingers to tap 5 to 10 times. While tapping, it helps to make statements to acknowledge your bad habits such as:

* I often bite my nails when I'm nervous
* Sometimes I bite my nails
* I seldom bite my nails now
* I choose not to bite my nails
* Even though I bite my nails, I completely love and accept myself anyway
* I don't bite my nails now

You can make up the phrases you want to say as you go through the tapping session. The important thing is to stay focused on the issue rather than on the words. If you stick with it, you'll begin to see improvements in your behavior and your bad habit will become a thing of the past.Jo Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17704243748378275699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3179347228891605346.post-33971465616331095752013-07-17T14:27:00.001-04:002013-07-17T14:30:13.707-04:00EFT Tapping Mistakes and How to Avoid ThemEFT tapping is simple and easy to learn, but did you know that it's still possible to make mistakes? Here are some of the common mistakes people make when tapping:

1. Not Tapping Often Enough
Tapping should be done on a daily basis. Experts recommend at least 5 minutes of tapping three or more times each day. At the very least, do some tapping in the morning before getting out of bed, and again at night before falling asleep.
A few issues can be cleared up with a minute of tapping, but the majority will require more time and attention. More frequent tapping can also clear bigger problems more quickly.

2. Not Tapping Long Enough
Many people stop too soon during a tapping session. Too often, beginners tap for a few rounds and give up when they feel they're not getting the results they were hoping for. Tapping should take 10-30 minutes, or even longer. Devoting enough time to tapping will make a lot of difference.
Some people will also stop when they begin to feel better. Don't settle for just a bit of relief; continue tapping until the energy starts flowing and you feel really good.

3. Not Being Specific Enough
Global or general statements can help get you started in the right direction while tapping, but after that you have to be more specific. You can setup with a statement like “Even though I feel anxious right now, I deeply and completely accept myself.” After doing a couple of rounds of the general statement, you can go down to specifics such as “Even though I feel anxious about my upcoming job interview, I deeply and completely accept myself.” You'll get better results when you're focused on a specific issue.

4. Wanting To Do The Tapping Perfectly
Right Away
Some people want to be “perfect” and may put off tapping until they feel they are able to do it correctly. As a result they only try the technique a few times, or not at all.
Getting started on tapping is more important than being perfect. You can still get good results even if you think your technique is less than perfect. Start with the basic tapping points and be sure to tap daily to develop your EFT skills.

5. Not Tuning Into The Feelings

Don't forget that tapping clears emotional energy from your body. Hence, it's important to tune into your feelings and not merely “think” about them. If your psychological difficulties these days are the result of embarrassing childhood memories, try to recall how you felt at the time. Old feelings of shame, hurt and anger will sometimes resurface when you tap. Try to resurrect these feelings and you will get more out of your tapping sessions.

6. Expecting All Results From Tapping To Be Permanent

You can't expect 100% positive results all the time, and this is true not only for EFT but for all healing methods as well. Don't get frustrated or discouraged if an issue or part of it comes back. Some people do get permanent results but in many cases you may have to do more tapping to get rid of the issue completely.
If you have a problem that keeps coming back, this could mean that other aspects or a root cause needs to be uncovered and addressed first.

7. Sticking To EFT Basics Only
In order to master EFT and reap its full benefits, you have to invest time and effort to gain skill and develop your intuition. It's not enough to “go through the motions”. Harness your intuition and use it to seek out the most effective tapping techniques and peel away the emotions and root causes of your problems.

You will find that emotional freedom tapping is normally very gentle, and quite often you can achieve substantial relief from a multitude of issues, with little or no pain.

There are a number of these meridians throughout the body, all of them important, but here I want to talk about two points in particular, either of which are used during the Setup Phase of the the Basic Recipe. These points are the "Sore Spot" and the "Karate Chop" point.

The Basic Recipe, a routine which was developed by Gary Craig, founder of EFT, consists of 4 steps (or processes), the first of which is the Setup. The Setup is a vital part of the whole process because it prepares the energy system before attempting to remove any disruptions so that the rest of the Basic Recipe can do what it is intended to do. The other three processes are (2) The Sequence, (3) The 9 Gamut Procedure, and (4) The Sequence (again).

The effectiveness of the last 3 processes of the Basic Recipe can actually be blocked by a form of electrical interference in your system, referred to as psychological reversal, and if this blockage is present it must be removed in order for the basic recipe to work. Applying the Setup first will remove this blockage, allowing the remainder of the process to do its job.

EFT - The Sore Spots

The Sore Spot is one of two points that can be used during the Setup of EFT. The Setup actually clears the way for the rest of the Basic Recipe to work, so this is a very important part of the routine.

The sore spots (we all have two of them) are situated in your upper chest and you can find them by first touching your fingers to your throat, and moving them down until you feel a u-shaped indentation.

Now move down another three inches or so towards your navel, and move three inches to either your left or right side (it doesn't matter which side). Press around in that area until you find a spot that is a little more sensitive to touch than its surrounding area - this is your sore spot.

Unlike the tapping technique used for other meridian points, you vigorously rub the sore spot in a circular motion as you repeat your affirmation sentence connected to whatever it is that you wish to change or relieve. The sore spot actually becomes sore because this is where lymphatic congestion occurs, and when you rub it, you are dispersing the congestion.

After a few episodes of rubbing the spot and dispersing of the congestion, the soreness will go away and the rubbing will not cause any further discomfort.

EFT - Karate Chop Point

The Karate Chop point is not quite as effective as the Sore Spot, but it can be used quite effectively if you have a problem that would prevent you from using it, such as having had surgery around that area of your chest. You will be vigorously tapping this point with the fingertips of your index finger and middle finger of your dominant hand, rather than rubbing like you do with the Sore Spot.

You can locate your Karate Chop point at the center of the fleshy part of the outside of either hand between the top of the wrist and the base of the little finger. If you were going to deliver a karate chop, this is the area of your hand that you would use. Using either hand to do the tapping is equally effective, but it is usually more convenient to use the fingers of the dominant hand to tap on the karate chop point of the nondominant hand.

The EFT Setup

The Setup consists of two parts including an affirmation that you will repeat 3 times while simultaneously either rubbing the Sore Spot, or tapping the Karate Chop point. The affirmation will be a brief description of the problem you want to address, inserted into a sentence similar to this:

Even though I have this__________, I deeply and completely accept myself.

The affirmation serves to acknowledge your problem, and to create self acceptance in spite of it. Whether you have a fear of flying, a headache, anger toward someone, a craving for cigarettes, or any other problem - just insert it in the blank and this will be the affirmation you repeat during the process. And it's interesting to note that you don't have to believe the affirmation, you just have to say it.

That's it for the EFT Setup phase. Create a short affirmation and repeat it 3 times while continuously tapping the Karate Chop point or rubbing the Sore Spot. Now you're ready to go on to the second phase, which is the Sequence, and we'll talk more about this in another article.
Gary Craig, the founder of EFT, developed a routine for applying EFT that he calls the "Basic Recipe", and it consists of four different "ingredients", or processes - two of them identical. Once memorized, this whole process takes about one or two minutes to apply.

The EFT Processes:

1. The Setup
2. The Sequence
3. The 9 Gamut Procedure
4. The Sequence

Gary goes into great deal about each one of these processes in his free EFT manual, but we’ll touch on the basics of the techniques below.

EFT And Meridians

Meridians are pathways in the body, along which energy flows, and are normally associated with an organ of the body; the stomach, kidney, lung, liver, gall bladder, etc. Meridians were discovered over five thousand years ago by the ancient Chinese, who found an energy - invisible to our senses - that flows through everyone's body.

This energy flows along the meridians sort of like the copper wires on an electrical circuit board, carrying the energy to all parts of the body.

Physical and mental problems are likely caused by disturbances in this energy flow, and so, by working on the different meridian points, EFT works to free up these energy flows.

It is by really focusing your mind on, and at the same time "tapping" on, specific meridian points - points on which acupuncture and acupressure therapies also work - that you can rid yourself of many physical, emotional, and mental issues that may be holding you back and causing you distress.

MF = Middle Finger - On the side of your middle finger (the side closest to your thumb) at a point even with the base of the fingernail.

BF = Baby Finger - On the inside of your little finger (the side closest to your thumb) at a point even with the base of the fingernail.

KC = Karate Chop - The last point is the karate chop point. It is located in the middle of the fleshy part on the outside of the hand between the top of the wrist bone and the base of the little finger.

The meridian points should all be tapped with your first two fingers, so you get the most coverage and control. You will need to tap each point, firmly but not painfully, about seven times each while you repeat your reminder phrase about what positive change you are going to make in yourself.

Most of the tapping points can be found on either side of your body, and it doesn't matter if you switch sides during your EFT tapping sequence. Your tapping sequence will be administered near one end of each of your meridians where the meridian is closest to the surface of the body and therefore more easily accessible.
There are so many "programs" and "plans" that claim to help you to kick the habit forever, but in reality, they are almost always just that - gimmicks.

It is amazing that so many people are finally accepting the fact that cigarettes are bad for your health - trying almost anything that claims to help them "kick the habit", and yet they are so reluctant to try something as simple as Emotional Freedom Technique.

After using EFT, or emotional freedom technique, for the first time to address problems with addictions, many people are completely caught off guard by the results. After having tried many other methods to quit smoking and other addictions as well, many have been able to completely quit smoking and overeating, and stop using alcohol and drugs, with the help of EFT.

The first benefit of using EFT for addictions such as smoking is that it effectively deals with the craving a person is experiencing. The tapping of the body's energy meridians should be completed along with positive thoughts such as "Although I am addicted to tobacco, I am strong enough to overcome my addiction and live a fulfilling life."

While many other techniques fail to remove cravings - making it very difficult, if not impossible, to quit an addiction - after a round or two of EFT tapping, a person's craving usually completely passes. In fact, a lot of people can walk away from their addictions and lead much healthier lives after regular EFT therapy, or even self-taught EFT usage.

In addition to the meridian tapping, EFT also works with addictions because it is a holistic health approach, meaning that all aspects of a person's being are recognized: the physical, spiritual, and emotional. The majority of addictions have an emotional root, even though it is a physical problem as well.

Every time a person uses an addictive substance, he or she is trying to block out the fear, guilt, or anger of a past issue. The smoking is just a vice to relieve pain, forget past trauma, or deal with an unpleasant situation.

EFT doesn't just cover up the symptoms or problems that led to the addiction. In fact, with just a few EFT sessions, many can actually leave the addiction behind altogether. One must recognize the anxiety that is causing the desire for the addictive substance such as nicotine, and performing the EFT tapping routine for that craving can really help to reduce the cravings for good.

EFT has amazing healing powers, and can treat nicotine addiction quickly and effectively. Once a person understands what is making them want to block out their feelings with cigarettes, the intensity of the craving can be eliminated with some EFT training.

EFT tapping can help overcome both the physical cravings for nicotine, as well as the emotional attachment. You do not even have to recognize the basis of the fears and feelings that you are masking with nicotine in order for EFT to work.

Two of the most common addictions are drugs and alcohol, but there are a number of other addictions that can be treated effectively with EFT. For instance, in addition to using eft to quit smoking, there have been many reports of EFT curing addictions such as sexual addiction, compulsive hair pulling, overuse of caffeine, and many others. As Gary Craig says, "Try It On Everything".Jo Annhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/17704243748378275699noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3179347228891605346.post-5721521395757012992008-11-21T23:06:00.011-05:002013-07-18T19:03:19.327-04:00What Is EFT?
EFT – Emotional Freedom Technique - also known as the Universal Healing Aid - and founded by Gary Craig - is a procedure that was originally designed to reduce the psychotherapy process from months and years - down to minutes and hours. EFT is described by Gary as "an emotional version of acupuncture, but without the needles".

EFT developed from Thought Field Therapy (TFT) during the 1990's through Gary’s work, and it works on a system of 'meridians' just like TFT does.

EFT does not require the use of needles, drugs, surgery, radiation or any other methods that are invasive to the body. Instead it relies on a gentle 'tapping' of these meridians that run throughout the body while repeating a predetermined "affirmation" and "reminder phrase" related to the particular problem you are addressing.

Early on, it was discovered that in addition to emotional healings, astonishing physical healings also occurred through the application of EFT. Symptoms were fading for everything from Migraine Headaches to Cancer.

Because there is a connection between emotional issues that eventually manifest themselves as physical ailments or diseases in our bodies, some EFT practitioners believe that if you can rid yourself of these emotional issues, there is a good chance that the physical ailments can be either prevented or even cured.

Many people have never even heard of EFT - Emotional Freedom Technique - much less know what it is. But, chances are if you knew how it could help you in virtually all aspects of your physical, emotional, and practical life, you would try it. EFT is simple to learn, and even simpler to do - and the potential benefits of its use are enormous.
